Born in Iran in 1980, I studied Painting at Tehran Azad University before completing my MA and PhD in Painting at Hacettepe University in Türkiye, where I focused on the theme of visual traces of the unpredictability of the subject.
I often examine what lies behind daily struggles through amorphous, abstract structures, using painting and, lately, printmaking, often in series format. I see them on the basis of physics, and I focus on the subject in a state of existence and nonexistence to open other dimensions where we can read our reality and ego.
In my latest works, color is a rare sighting. The series of paintings display a variety of compositions and moods around the subject of chaos and irregularities. Black is the dominant part of the works, such as in Torn out Universe (2016). Each square is a symbol of order, a heavy, durable, and stationary form that connects four points, becoming a chessboard to ease our understanding of a complex order. Black exists in the presence of its own contrasts, restraining chaos and opening up a new understanding of a fertile “dark.”
The chaotic and destabilizing nature of my home country, Iran, and the revolution and war that deeply impacted the country with severe consequences, have provided me with an unmatched library of visual references and memories. ‘Searching for a new life’ and ‘total obedience to nature’ have led me to analyze sociocultural disorders and desperately attempt to normalize and create a safe space through creation.
My current works, such as Black Balance and Position 4, deal with the subject of entropy in art.
